This multi-year renovation and addition project involved the total rehabilitation of an 1825 cottage and accompanying barn. No space was left untouched. >
While house hunting, our Clients were charmed by Essex’s historic housing stock. When they found a secluded lot overlooking the marsh, they engaged Red Barn to design a new home with modern comforts within the shell of a Victorian-style farmhouse. >
Now under construction, this custom barn will include garage storage on the lower level, as well as guest quarters, studio space and a home gym on the upper level, all overlooking the Great Marsh. >
This custom new build is situated to take advantage of a unique hillside site with significant granite ledge deposits. Substantial sitework was necessary to prepare for a foundation, as well as for a geothermal system. >

With their children launched, our Clients were relocating to Coastal Maine and wanted to simplify their living arrangements. The resulting design was a clean lined and bright space with considerations for the coming years. >
